In today’s lecture “Google Analytics IP Filtering” under Technical SEO, we will learn how we can filter out our IP address from Google Analytics.
We divide Google Analytics Filtering into two types:
- Static IP Filtering
- Dynamic IP Filtering
Google Analytics IP Filtering
It can become a little annoying for you that when you visit your website, analytics count it as 1 visit. A more annoying factor could be if you contribute to the bounce rate of your website by not staying there for more time.
To get rid of Google analytics counting your visit is to create a filter and block your IP, follow the steps stated below ” Google Analytics IP Filtering”.
Blocking Static IP from Analytics:
Visit website whatsmyip and fetch your IP.
- It will be in this format “111.111.111.111”. Copy your IP and paste it in notepad
- Open Google Analytics account and Hit Admin
Now you will be creating a Filter to block your IP to get counted as a new user visit
- Click on Filter option
- Add Filter
- Add a name to the filter
- Filter type should be predefined
- Further set the options to Exclude, traffic from the IP addresses, that are equal to
- Put your IP Address in the last box and Hit Save
Excluding Dynamic IP from Analytics:
IP provided by various ISP is dynamic which keeps on changing when we connect with the internet hence known as Dynamic IP
How to Filter Dynamic IP:
To filter out dynamic IP you will require an extension called Google Analytics Opt-Out in which you need to mention the website URL which you would like to exclude from the analytics data. You will visit the mentioned website but it will not count the same in the analytics.
